We thought this day would never come but it finally has. As of March 29th, Colony will be available through most major outlets in the United States via Docurama. Please check your local video store, Netflix, iTunes, Amazon, etc. to get your copy. As for Europe and other regions, we are working on it! Email us and we’ll bootleg one for you.

Irish Times Film critic Donald Clark gave Colony some warm and heartfelt compliments in his article on the end of the Dublin Film Festival. Here is the full article: ‘Fading Light on Film Festival’

He also mentioned something about Occams Razor of which I knew nothing and caused a frantic dash for Wikipedia. Something to do with the simplest explanation being the best one.

True/False Film Festival

Team Colony and Lost Hills Pictures would like to thank everyone who came out to Columbia, Missouri for True/False! We had three great screenings packed with wonderful audiences. This festival, directed by Paul Sturtz and David Wilson, is one I recommend to anyone passionate about documentary film. It is both a great experience for the audience and filmmakers alike.

I only had the chance to see one film while I was there but I’m glad it was “Last Train Home” by Lixin Fan. This film is an exceptional example of when artistry and journalism cross paths.

Awards Season

Colony has been nominated for a prestigous IFTA, the Irish Oscar. The ceremony takes place tomorrow night and while we’ve got our fingers crossed for red carpet glory we’re facing some stiff competition, with Ken Wardrop’s ‘His&Hers‘ firmly installed as the hot favorite, coming fresh from it’s incredible success at the Sundance film festival.

We’re yet to glimpse the film but knowing Ken’s previous excursions in the short form with ‘Undressing My Mother’ and ‘Useless Dog’ I imagine it will be both a charming and unique piece of filmmaking.

Best of luck to all, including fellow nominees Alan Gilsenan for ‘The Yellow Bittern: The Life and Times of Liam Clancy’ and Neil McKay for ‘The Bass Player: A Song for Dad’.

Over on the airwaves meanwhile, former rock god Tom Dunne took the time to do this piece for Newstalk 106.

Colony Festival Screenings

We are delighted to announce some upcoming festival screenings for our documentary Colony. February brings us the privilege of two festival outings for our honeybee odyssey.

February 23rd is our Irish premiere at the Jameson Dublin International Film Festival. While the film is all set in the US, director Ross McDonnell and producers Macdara Kelleher and Morgan Bushe are native Dubliners, making this something of a homecoming party for the film, which is also funded by the Irish Film Board.

Only days after ‘JDIFF’ we will be heading to Columbia, Missouri for the True/False Film Fest with director Carter Gunn making the trans-Atlantic running to share his honeybee knowledge with audiences on two continents. While Columbia, Missouri may not seem like a likely destination for a film festival, True/False has managed to secure some gems in it’s program this year, including Sundance Grand Prize winner Restrepo and Lin Xin Fan’s highly praised Last Train Home among other heavy hitting documentaries. Kudos to programmer Paul Sturtz for his enthusiasm and energy.
